Jackie Chan in Drunken Master

This is one of my favorite Jackie Chan films. The Drunken boxing style is just so funny to watch, and at the same time you can see why it might be effective (not forgetting of course that this is film and not real life). This clip is the big fight at the end of the film, and is excellent to watch.

What other kung-fu or martial arts films are really worth watching? I've watched quite a LOT but I'm always looking for more. If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to comment.

I can list a few movies that I've got. Enter the Dragon and Return of the Dragon (though you've probably watched them both), Once upon a time in China (the 5-part Jet Li series about the legendary Wong Fei Hung) and, of course, all the other Jackie Chan movies, especially his Chinese movies (particularly ones with Sammo Hung). Then there's The Transporter (I and II) with Jason Statham. Lionheart, Kickboxer, and Time Cop (*ing Van Damme).

The Rocky series which, again, you might know about (the first still does something to my insides every time I watch it). I recently watched Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby and I can suggest that too.

Now, I've not had much time to go through your blog (I'm doing this during my work hours), but I'll definitely come back ASAP.

In the meantime, if you find any of the above worth watching, do let me know at my email. Underhill reminds me of JRRT and Simulation and Simulacra of The Matrix. But no time now. Gotta run.

Thanks for the heads up on the films - I'll work my way through the ones on your list I haven't seen. The first Rocky film is good - it is a source of constant amazement to me that it was written and directed by Stallone because it's such a wonderfully human story. That probably tells you a lot about what I think of Sylvester Stallone though.
Simulation and Simulacra is an excellent book. It was one of those that when I read it I kept finding myself thinking "of course that's right," and it's been an inspiration in a lot of my thinking and writing. The Underhill name of the blog is partly an accident of geography and partly a tribute to Tolkien.
See you soon!
